The Painted Hills

A photographic safari to one of Oregon’s exotic jewels.

The Painted Hills are one of my favorite places to photograph. The banded colors are the result of volcanic ash and diluvial deposits laid down 30 million years ago. On this trip, I made three separate forays to the site to recod the changing character of the site at different times of the day.

Colorful layers mark time when deposits were laid down.
